The Virtual CD support forum

So when are we notified?

I spent money on your product. I expect to be notified when new releases are available. Your claim that you can't be prepared before a new Windows version is bogus. Just participate in the programs designed for developers, and your products will be ready to go on time, not weeks or months later.

Virtual CD on Windows 10

Virtual CD v10 is fully functional on Windows 10, the only disadvantage is the need to reinstall after a major update. We are working on Virtual CD v11, but at the moment there is release date for the new version. It is not only the driver model that has to be changed - that's a minor part and not a real problem, but Virtual CD will be redesigned, there will be new functions etc. That's what's taking time...

When you sign in to our newsletter you will be informed as sson as Virtual CD v11 will be available.

Unable to create synchronous Reader. Error 0x80004002

But it's NOT "fully functional". Ever since the latest Win10 Anniversary update, and the required re-install of Virtual CD v10, I cannot use it to 'burn' virtual CD-RWs. The message I get from the application that's trying to burn the CD is:
Error details: Unable to create synchronous Reader.
Error 0x80004002: No such interface supported.

Cannot burn virtual CD-RWs

We did some testing and did not encounter any problem. Can you burn to a physical CD-RW? Which burning software did you use? Can you try another one?

Cannot burn virtual CD-RWs

I am able to burn to a virtual CD-RW using ISOBURN.EXE

ISOBURN is also able to burn to a physical CD.

I'm also able to burn from a virtual CD-RW (created above) to physical CD using Virtual CD's own "Burn a copy".

One program that is not able to burn to Virtual CD is "OverDrive for Windows" (a program used to download and read audio books from my local library). That program worked perfectly with Virtual CD until the latest 'anniversary' release of Win 10.

Now, "OverDrive for Windows" produces the error messages I previously documented ("Unable to create synchronous reader").

Roxio Creator is also unable to burn to Virtual CD. Roxio is, however, able to Erase virtual CDs.

OverDrive and Roxio Creator

Thanks you very much for the details! What is not yet clear to us: Are you able to burn to physical media using OverDrive and Roxio Creator or do you get the same error message?

OverDrive and Roxio Creator

Roxio is able to burn a .iso image to physical media.

But, Roxio fails trying to burn a 'data' disc, or a 'music' disc, with these messages:
-----------------------
There was a problem writing to the disc. You can try again by clicking the
Retry button. You will need another blank disc ready.
Sense: 00 ASC: 00 ASCQ: 00 (Command 00)
Px.dll: 4.24.23.2
PxAFS.DLL: 4.24.23.2
pxdrv.dll: 1.02.59a
PxMas.dll: 4.24.23.2
PxSFS.DLL: 4.24.23.2
PxWave.dll: 4.24.23.2
pxwma.dll: 1, 0, 0, 3

OverDrive would be trying to create an audio CD. It fails to burn to physical media, and gives the same error message as when it tries and fails to burn to Virtual CD.
Error details: Unable to create synchronous Reader.
Error 0x80004002: No such interface supported.

Physical media

Thanks for the feedback! So, when physical media cannot be burnt either, there is no problem with Virtual CD, but most likely there is a compatibility problem of the burning programs. Maybe there are updates for Windows 10. Or just try to reinstall them.

Kind regards,
