Error message 'A certificate chain could not be built to a trusted root authority.'

During the installation or on starting Virtual CD you experience an error: 'Failed to verify the integrity of the executable. Error code: 'A certificate chain could not be built to a trusted root authority.' Now shutting down the program.'

Virtual CD uses for signing a "new" certificate from VeriSign. This cerificate requires a root certificates which also comes from VeriSign. This root certificate is at least not part of Windows XP, but provided via Windows Update automatically. If this update is missing for any reason, you'll get the error message above as the root certifiate is missing.

The root certificate may not be deployed by the Virtual CD setup, but is available here: verisign.cer

Double click the file and follow the instructions in order to install the certificate.
