Update of Virtual CD from a previous version

There is no automatic software update from a previous version. The setup of Virtual CD installs the program in a new folder.

You need a new serial number for a new version. You can order it in our Online Shop.

You can use your previously created virtual CDs with any new version!

If you want to replace e.g. Virtual CD v9 with v10, you first have to deinstall Virtual CD v9. Make sure that you DO NOT DELETE your virtual CDs! Then you can install Virtual CD v10.

Please note: When updating from version 8 or 9 to Virtual CD v10, please note down your old license key (registration number) before deinstalling! The license key for v8 or v9 is necessary for the installation with a v10 update key.
When registering version 10, you first have to enter the license code for Version 10. The licensing tool recognizes whether it is a (valid) full license or an update license. If it is a (valid) update license, you will be asked to enter the license code of the previous version.
An update license to version 10 only permits you to update to v10 from v8 or v9. Owners of previous versions will have to purchase a full version.

Please also be aware that you need the corresponding original-version license for the update license verification! E.g. you cannot verify a v10 5-client with a v9 single user license!

NOTE: The demo versions as of v8 cannot be registered  anymore (see KB #484)!

Hint: You can use the global configuration files from a previous version. During installation of the network version during the setup you can select the global configuration path. Alternatively you can later enter it in the Virtual CD settings (on the "Network" card of the Virtual CD settings dialog). Then you save on unnecessary adding on existing virtual CDs as well as the creation of a folder structure in the CD Management for the global view.

Hint: In the local configuration files (VCDImg.dat and VCDTree.dat) in the program directories some settings (e.g. the start application) are stored. During deinstallation these are deleted. When updating it makes sense to backup these configuration files and then later copy them in the program diectory.

It is possible to use different versions at the same time (naturally with a different set of virtual drive letters), but normally it doesn't make sense (except for testing a new version while running the old one).
